Song of
Trusting the Heart
A Zen Guide to
Rebecoming Our Natural Self
We humans have evolved two predominant ways of
living: self-oriented and group-oriented. Most native people are members
of tight-knit groups, while the majority of civilized people are
self-focused. This brings up fundamental differences in how those of
each lifeway relate to their kin, and to their environment. For 97% of
the time we humans have existed, we have been group oriented. In the 3%
that we have been self oriented, we have almost destroyed the planet.
Some people keep trying to fix what is not
working; others want to return to what has worked for us in ancient
times. There is another approach that sees our dilemma not as a choice
between this and that, but as a reconnection with the essence of what it
is to be human. This approach circumvents the whole morass of using
philosophy, politics, science, and psychology as tools to finding our
way. When there is no search, no roadmap is needed; when there is
nothing to fix, no tools are needed.
The answer, according to a few who have stepped
aside from the search, does not even stem from a question. All one needs
to do is be. In fact, it is inaccurate to say that one
"needs to do" being, because nothing is done -- one
merely desists from the relentless pursuit of truth, justice, peace, and
comfort. That vacuum then fills with the song of trusting the heart.
This little book contains the lyrics, which you will find you already
know. The melody comes when we all sing it together.
