Our Living Classrooms
Nishnajida (Ojibwe for
Camp Where the Old Way Returns is where the
Wilderness Guide Program takes place. For a full 11 months, participants live in this Northern Forest camp situated on an eighty acre preserve adjacent to the Headwaters Wilderness in the Nicolet National Forest. The area is a roadless expanse of pine and maple forests, bogs and streams, which are home to bear, wolf, otter, eagle and so many of our other relations. There, under tall pines near the shores of a quiet lake are two small summer camps of bark and thatch lodges and a winter camp with insulated shelters. Nishnajida offers a complete immersion experience where seekers learn as they live the Old Way. See

Mashkodens (Ojibwe for
Little Prairie) is the site of the
Wild Moon Immersion. Another recreation of a traditional Northern Forest camp, Mashkodens is adjacent to the Nicolet National Forest and overlooks a pungent sweet fern-blueberry meadow. The camp has shelters for all seasons: a subterranean lodge, a sod lodge, and two thatch and bark wigwams. An arbor and a lean-to shelter the hearths where seekers gather for cooking, eating, crafting, and sharing dreams and stories. Areas are set up for hide tanning, flint knapping, and other crafts. See
